Promise Auction
In aid of the Blackthorn Village Hall - SATURDAY 22 SEPTEMBER 2012 At 19.30
BLACKTHORN VILLAGE HALL
Quiz, Fish Supper and Grand Auction of Promises - £5 on the door if not before!
Now you may be wondering what on Earth an Auction of Promises is and how you can get involved. Well there are two ways to get involved –
the first and this is really simple you promise something, say like a pot of your home made jam or a wheelbarrow full of logs, for the more
adventurous you could promise to complete a 2 hour ironing stint or perhaps you are in a position to offer a stay in your country retreat.
We then take those Promises whatever they are and turn them into cash for the Village Hall refurbishment project. Our Hall is beyond needing
a simple redecoration and in order to preserve the hall for the next generation we need to complete substantial repairs.
The second way is to come along on the night – enjoy the fish supper and then bid on the Promises – it’s that simple!
Open to everyone and everyone can get involved!
Blackthorn Village Hall Restoration Project
Blackthorn Village Hall has served the community since 1870 first as a School House and since 1979 as the Village Hall. Over the years the
intervening time has taken its toll on the building and a major refurbishment is required to fix some rising damp, update and improve the
facilities and most importantly insulate the roof space and protect the Charity against rising fuel prices.
In November of last year the team kicked off the fundraising with the Clay Pigeon shoot, since then we have had carols around the Christmas
tree and a sumptuous Burns night supper.
We have a shopping basket of items that we want for the hall and every penny raised will be used to deliver a first class environment for our
future events – we hope to receive grants equivalent to what we raise!
• £45 will buy one sheet of Insulation for the roof. £375 would buy 10
• £15 will buy a sheet of plasterboard
• £10 will buy a can of paint.
• £15000 will allow us to install new windows.
• £20000 will provide the building services to strip out the ceiling and replace
From large to small we need it all!
Before we start however we have to strip out the 1970’s décor from walls and ceilings – this will allow us to fix the rising damp and insulate
the ceiling, creating a dry, vaulted ceiling returning the building to its original character. Nothing quite as satisfying as tearing off the old wood
paneling – anyone who is as the saying goes “Up for it” – Monty is your man and he can be contacted at montylamont@hotmail.com or

The project will provide new windows and doors. Updated toilet facilities, revamped kitchen and sound walls and roof that will ensure that the
Hall is around for the next 100 years!
